About Dawn
I am an artist and maker of prints living and working in Highgate Village, North London. I arrived in ‘swinging’ London in the late 60’s to attend a textile degree course at Central School of Art and Design. Once there, I just knew I had found my spiritual home. On leaving Central I continued to freelance mainly for the European market, selling extensively to Liberty’s, Cacharel and Rasch. I then took up a design position at the John Lewis Display Studios, London. On leaving John Lewis I started lecturing part time on a Foundation Art course. During this time I also setup and oversaw various private companies. In recent years, I have returned to my first love of fine art printing.
My latest monotypes capture the expansive areas of textured colour that create hypnotic images. Using muted colour I'm able to present a compelling view of the shore, sand and sea whilst drawing ones eye to the horizon beyond. Adding to this colour and perfecting my mark making has helped create the intoxicating part abstract, part figurative images of a part real, part imagined world in a unique way of working with oil rolled colour. The layers of colour invites the viewer into the inspirational complexity of abstract expressionism that embraces a sense of balance and belonging in its uniqueness.
These monotypes are unique
My Work
My latest unique monotypes of Britains shoreline capture expansive areas of textured colour creating hypnotic abstract images. Her use of muted colour present a compelling view of the shore, sand, sea and the horizon beyond. Stories of layered colours give depth and expression to this recent body of work allowing her to create intoxicating abstract imagery with her mark making
I love colour its uses and excuses, the layering of it and the tricks it plays on the eye. Please take the time to look at more of my work and feel free to contact me and follow me on my social media channels.
